ABOUT ME
AKIRA UCHIKATA
DIRECTOR & PRODUCER
AKIRA UCHIKATA
Akira Uchikata began his directorial career at Asahi Broadcasting Corporation, one of Japan’s most prominent drama production networks. He first honed his craft as an assistant director on a long-running police drama series—an iconic franchise that has been produced since the early days of Japanese television. By his third year, he was entrusted with the helm as series director.
He went on to gain renown for directing some of Japan’s most celebrated suspense series, and in recent years has successfully produced and directed projects of his own conception and screenplay, earning both critical and commercial acclaim.
Uchikata’s openness to international collaboration stems in part from his relocation to Los Angeles in 2004, where he studied film at the University of Southern California (USC). He contributed as a crew member to major studio films such as The Last Samurai and Memoirs of a Geisha. His distinguished career also includes directing projects for major theme parks, receiving awards for independent films in the United States, and earning creative accolades from Japanese television networks.
