A new, full-fledged Honkaku mystery based on the original novel by Yukito Ayatsuji, The Clock House Murders, will begin streaming in two parts, at the end of February and the end of March,2026 on Hulu Japan. Fully leveraging the substantial scale of the eight-episode source material, this is an ambitious and accomplished production. Faithful to the novel’s Gothic horror atmosphere, the series also showcases bold, stylish flourishes through distinctly Japanese puzzle-driven storytelling and direction. The work highlights Akira Uchikata’s strengths as a showrunner, as well as the breadth and versatility of his directorial approach. Looking ahead, he is seeking opportunities to expand his work to global platforms.
